Children’s books with stories, activities, and story-based online games: a new format for reading, creativity, and play

Today, it is easy to find a separate book for a child, a separate coloring book, a separate activity workbook, and a separate online game. All of these things are available, bright, and appealing. But very often, they exist separately from one another: there is no shared story between them. A child moves from one activity to another without staying inside one connected experience.

At LittleBookBirdAndWiseOwl, we chose a different path: not to create just another children’s book with a few activities and a link to games added to it, not to gather random children’s activities into one place, but to create one book world, where the story turns into action and each step a child takes has meaning and leads further.

That is why we create educational children’s books where stories, activities, creativity, and story-based online games work together as one connected experience.

Not just many things, but everything with meaning

A children’s book can include many different elements: stories to read, developmental activities, and coloring pages for creative work. But quantity alone means nothing. If these elements are not connected, a child simply moves from one task to another.

For us, something else matters. In LittleBookBirdAndWiseOwl, every element grows out of the book world. At the heart of each of our books are journeys and conversations between the curious Little Book Bird and the Wise Owl, who helps find answers and look at the world more carefully. Through these stories, a child discovers the world and travels together with the main characters.

But the stories do not end after reading. They continue into activities, drawings, coloring pages, cut-out tasks, and online games on the website. And also into creating a child’s own idea for the characters’ next journeys.

In this way, a book becomes not just a one-time reading experience, but a path a child can return to.

Not just a developmental exercise, but action inside the world

A child can simply complete an activity on a page. Or a child can complete an activity that is connected to the characters’ adventure. That feels completely different.

Such an activity becomes part of the adventure. A child helps the characters, finds a path, notices details, draws, counts, compares, searches, cuts, glues, and colors. A child is not simply following instructions – the child is continuing the adventure, acting inside a world already known from the story, and better understanding why each action matters.

In this way, a book becomes not just a collection of developmental activities, but a world where every action is connected to the adventure.

Not an extra creative page, but an invitation to think further

In many children’s materials, creativity exists separately: here is a coloring page, here is a place for a drawing, here is a task to draw something extra. In our project, creativity continues the story. A child works with the book through hands, color, and imagination. The child does not simply color a ready-made picture, but interacts with the page: adds to it, changes it, completes it, and makes it part of their own experience.

At the end of the book, there is one more important step waiting for the child – their own idea, which may become a future adventure for the characters. This is no longer just an answer to an activity. It is participation in the book world.

In this way, the book invites the child to think further.

Not random online games, but games based on book stories

We do not set the digital space against the printed book. And we do not want the website to be just a place where a child “escapes” after reading. On the contrary: the printed book gives the digital space meaning, boundaries, and story.

LittleBookBirdAndWiseOwl online games are created based on the stories a child has read. A child does not enter a random stream of someone else’s content. The child continues a familiar journey in a safe digital space without ads, without notifications, and without unnecessary distractions.

In this way, the book continues in online games.

One book as the beginning of a journey

LittleBookBirdAndWiseOwl is a book world, not a set of separate materials. Here, story leads to action. Action leads to creativity. Creativity leads to a child’s own ideas. And play brings the child back to familiar characters and their adventures.

There is no need to look every time for a separate coloring book, a separate activity workbook, a separate game, and a separate creative activity. One book can give a child a longer meaningful cycle: read, think, complete activities, work with hands, color, imagine a continuation, and then return to the world of the characters on the website.

Of course, this does not mean that one book should replace everything for a child. But it can become a meaningful point of return – not a random amusement for a few minutes, but a small system of reading, creativity, and play that a child can return to again.
