“Let’s tell our readers about us,” the Little Book Bird asked the Wise Owl.
They were sitting in a clearing in their forest, each doing what they loved most: as always, the Wise Owl was reading a book, and the Little Book Bird was exploring berries she had never seen before.
“I’m sure our readers would like to know how it all began, where we came from,” the Book Bird continued.
“I think so too,” replied the Wise Owl. “And what would you tell them?”
“Oh, I would tell them about the boy, about his imagination, about how he painted us, about how he invented us and our adventures – about everything, everything, everything,” chirped the Book Bird quickly. “And I would also tell them about…”
“Wait, wait, wait,” laughed the Wise Owl, gently stopping her. “I can’t keep up with you. Our readers won’t understand anything if it all rushes past without explanation and without pauses. Someone might want to know more. Try again, shall we?”
“All right. It all began with a nine-year-old boy. He loved birds. He read about them a lot. And one day he started writing The Book About Birds and created us – you and me, Wise Owl. In his book, he made up adventures for us. We travel there and visit different birds. Then he painted us and our adventures. That’s how we came to be,” finished the Book Bird.
“That’s right,” said the Wise Owl. “It was a very interesting journey. We visited many places and met many birds. Do you remember how the boy’s mother was so impressed by the adventures, the stories, and the drawings that she promised to publish his book?”
“Yes, I remember. But she was only able to do it nine years later,” replied the Little Book Bird.
“And she did much more than that,” said the Wise Owl. “She created a whole world around one book. Now, in addition to stories about our adventures, the book includes fascinating facts about birds, colouring pages, cut-out activities, and educational tasks – so that it would be even more interesting. So that anyone who holds the book in their hands is not only a reader, but also a creator.”
“She also created this website,” the Wise Owl continued, “which not only became our home, but a place where our stories do not end. She created online games inspired by our adventures. And you know, I really like it here.”
“So do I! And I can play games!” chirped the Little Book Bird. “That’s wonderful! Shall we fly to visit the Author? It’s been a long time since we’ve seen her.”
“That’s a good idea,” replied the Wise Owl. “The Author can tell much more about our world – what’s in it and why.”
“Then let’s fly to visit the Author!” exclaimed the Little Book Bird happily.
